Words

Hi,

The weekend was typical as far as the weather. There was sunshine, days with threatening clouds, and rain. We did our usual weekend things, and had fun splashing around in the pool.

'Old School Friday' had many of you "All Shook Up", as sung by Elvis Presley. Cousin Trudye pointed out that a singer by the name of David Hill recorded the song first with the title "I'm All Shook Up", and that Elvis covered it. Now you know. This week's 'Easy Monday' will be familiar to most of you if you remember music from 1968. "I pulled into Nazareth, I was feelin' 'bout half past dead; I just need some place where I can lay my head. 'Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?' He just grinned and shook my hand, and 'No', was all he said. Take a load off Annie, take a load for free. Take a load off Annie, and (and, and) you put the load right on me." Clue: The band that recorded this song had a long run that ended with a final waltz. It was recorded in a big house with an unusual color. The title is two words that are not mentioned in the lyrics.

Saturday was a simple day for us. We didn't do much, but it's a bit of a blur. We ran some errands, played with the dogs, and swam. Since the Formula One race was in North America it meant that 'live' broadcast times were late at night here in Thailand. We did manage to watch some practice, and it got me in the mood. Everything ended up being seen the day after it happened. That's one nice thing about living someplace where F1 is of major interest. There are lots of repeat broadcasts of the events.

Sunday morning we went to Big C and did our weekly shopping. Then we went across the highway to Central Plaza for lunch. We went to KFC to have some 'familiar food'. They serve a combo that includes little chicken wing drumsticks. It turns out they are extra spicy. I guess one has to expect some Thai variations on the theme. One of the things that still fascinates me is how many employees are present at the fast food places. They have crews that clear your table for you so when you're done, you just leave. Imagine that.

This weeks special event in the middle of the mall was an art and craft display. Lots of tables selling kits for needle work, and some artists copying photos. We ended up at Robinson department store for shoe shopping and 'looking'. While we were walking down the main corridor of the mall we heard a song coming out of a clothing store. We went in to find out who it was, but nobody in the store had a clue. This seems to happen a lot with the advent of satellite radio. Stores can put on a channel that plays cool music and let it play all day. We had a laugh thinking about going back every ten minutes to ask who was singing.

When it rains, motorbike riders stop and pull out their plastic coats for protection. I noticed a twist on this when I spotted a guy putting his coat on backwards. It made perfect sense since the rain would be hitting him in the chest, why not have a seamless cover? Hmm.

After we left Central Plaza we went to the downtown market to ask the fabric guy if he knew of a good seamstress. He took us to his wife who told us of a woman who did good work. Today we went to see Khun Orn and dropped off some clothes for alterations. Our usual person is busy at the pineapple fields and not answering her phone so now we have an alternative.

Sunday evening we had dinner at the Night Bazaar and then visited with some of our merchant friends. When we were going back to our car we passed the watch shop. Lisa mentioned 'Wimbledon atit na' (Wimbledon next week) and his face lit up and he repeated what she said. He and his wife will be watching and they had a laugh.

Have a Great Week.

Peace,
Danny
