Opportunity

Hi,

We had a weekend full of activity. There were lots of rain storms, lakes in the yard, a special gathering, and an art exhibit opening.

Our 'Old School Friday' song was "Little Egypt" by The Coasters. For 'Easy Monday', let's see if you remember this one from the 80s (ouch). "She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene, I said, 'Don't mind but what do you mean, I am the one, who will dance on the floor in the round?'. She said, 'I am the one who will dance on the floor in the round." Hint: Someone's claiming something that isn't true. Hmm.

Friday night we went to the Night Bazaar and heard a cool trio playing on the main stage. Two guys and a woman, playing guitars and singing songs from The Beatles songbook as well as some other oldies, all in English. The two guys played and all three sang. We hope to see more of them.

Saturday evening we went to The Legend Hotel and Resort for a dinner sponsored by SKAL, the travel organization that hosted the elephant adventure we went on last year. This time there was a car show featuring some old European cars that 'live' in Chiang Rai. Very impressive. Then we had dinner in a new Italian restaurant that the hotel just finished. We had lots of interesting conversations with friends, and met some new people. Most of them are involved in travel or tourism in Thailand. As we sat down for dinner a big storm started and we were glad to be inside.

We left the dinner and went to 4 Cope Art Gallery for a very interesting exhibit. It was the collection of the artist who frames most of the local artist's work. He has work from most of them in his private collection because when they were starting out, he'd accept a piece of art as payment for framing. Khun Sompong took us through the gallery and explained most of the pieces and introduced us to the artist that painted them. We knew many of them, but hadn't seen their early work. It was a great experience, like having a docent escorting us.

Sunday morning was spent at Big C, of course, and then we had lunch at Central Plaza. In the main 'event area' on the first floor there was an art exhibit featuring people we knew. It was set up very nicely so shoppers could view the work almost as if they were in a gallery. After lunch we talked to Khun Songdeg, who is one of our favorites. There were four artists in the show and it's great exposure for the community. That evening we went back to the Night Bazaar for our regular dinner.

As I type, thunder is rolling around the sky and it's raining again. It's been a good weekend, and we're entering countdown mode for our trip to the States.

Have a Great Week.

Peace,
Danny
