Knowing

Hi,

Today has been a day of challenges. We had rain, but no water. We had to eat dinner away from home, and many reflexes were realized. Read on to find out.

It's nice to know that some of you remembered this song. The band backed up Bob Dylan before this adventure.
"I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide; when I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side. I said, 'Hey, Carmen, come on, let's go downtown.' She said, 'I gotta go, but m'friend can stick around.' Take a load off Annie, take a load for free....." Hint: Whatever the song is about, it has to do with lifting something that's heavy.

In the middle of the night, Lisa noticed that the water was off. This is not unusual, since it happens from time to time. When we woke up this morning the water was still off. We decided that if it wasn't back by 9am, Boot and I would go to the water department down the road and inquire about the problem. A little after 9 we went to the office and were told that they were 'cleaning some pipes'. Oh. The woman told us it would be back by 2pm. Boot told her she needed to take a shower and the woman said maybe by mid-day.

Just as we set out to go to lunch it started raining. That's when Lisa remembered we had food that Khun Noot and her daughter Kwan had brought us yesterday. It was a surprise when they called and said they were on their way to our house. Kwan had made delicious Spring Rolls and they would make a nice, light lunch.

Well, mid-day passed, 2pm passed, and at 3pm Boot called them. Now they said 5pm, but that didn't happen. We asked Boot to get some water from Mr. Narong, our neighbor who has a well. We left and went to dinner at a place we've passed many times but never tried. It's a big place set back off the road to Ban Mai, about 3 minutes from our house. The service was excellent, the dish we had was OK, and we decided we'd try it again. When we got home Boot had filled a trash can with water, plus various empty gallon bottles. We had water, although it was not the way we wanted it. It's now a little after 8pm and the water is still off. I guess we'll just have to have a late swim before bed. What a shame. (555)

The reflexes that I spoke of have to do with the things we take for granted. We kept going to the sink to wash our hands, but no water. I went to use the hose this morning, but no water. It's like when the power is out and you keep hitting light switches. Oh well.

In some respects, today has been a little like camping out. It also made me realize how some people live all the time. Running water is one of those things we just expect to be there. For some it's a luxury. Gratitude comes to mind.

Have a Happy Tuesday.

Peace,
Danny
