Justice

Hi,

The weather turned out better than predicted.  The morning clouds went away and we had a beautiful day.  Yea.

Our ‘Easy Monday’ song this week is from the ‘elder statesmen’ of R&R.  Some of you remembered it fondly.
“When I’m watchin’ my TV and a man comes on and tells me, how white my shirts should be.  But he can’t be a man ‘cause he doesn’t smoke the same cigarettes as me.  (__ __ __ __) __.  (__ __ __ __) girl reaction, ‘cause I try, and I try, and I try, and I try.  (__ __ __ __) no, no, no….”  Clue:  Frustration with the constant barrage of advertising encountered in America while on tour.  They came from across the pond.

This morning, while we were hanging out in the front yard, we heard an odd sound from across the road.  At first it sounded like the crackle of fire, but there was no smoke.  I started looking into the trees and spotted a man with a long pole, half way up a giant teak, batting at some of the limbs of the tree.  He would change position and do it again, without any kind of safety device.  This went on for some time and later we saw a big tarp spread out on the ground.  Natcha tried to explain it, something to do with termites.  The fact that they were collecting something leads me to think it was a food gathering expedition.  Insects are a high source of protein.  So, somewhere in the middle of this photo, there is a man in the tree.

The medical system here in Thailand is such that Thai people with a registration card can basically get free medical treatment.  The health minister is threatening to withhold free treatment to people who have broken the law and exposed the public to the covid virus.  There are many cases of Thais returning from Burma with the virus and being treated.  I would imagine this could cause a big controversy, since it could become a sentence for a much worse outcome without treatment.  Time will tell.

Lately, Nitchanan has been hanging out with us and trying to speak English.  Yesterday she pointed to the sunset and told me, “Very beautiful”.  She has been describing things that are happening as well as past experiences.  This evening she was looking at photos on Lisa’s phone and describing them in English.  Simple two and three word phrases, but she’s really working on it.  The real question is, is this new learning or stuff she’s been storing in her little brain?  Either way, it’s really cool.  She has so much to say, it will be nice to be able to communicate with her more.

Have a Happy Tuesday.

                     Peace,
                               Danny
