Friday Funnies

Hi,

We had another beautiful weather day in Chiang Rai.  Just cool enough in the morning to let you know you’re awake (555), a warmish day, and a mellow evening.

The ‘Jazzy Wednesday’ tune was “The Lady Is a Tramp”, written by Rogers and Hart and sung by everyone from Sinatra to Bennet, Ella to Gaga and on and on.  Time for an ‘Old School Friday’ you may know:  “Say yeah, yeah, yeah, say yeah, yeah, yeah… I try to put my arms around you, all because I wanna hold you tight (hold you tight).  But every time I reach for you, baby, and try to kiss you, you’re just jumping out of sight (out of sight).  Oh, I’ve got news for you, baby, that I’ve made plans for two.  I guess I’m just a __ __ __ __ got my mind made up to love you.”
Hint:  It’s from 1963, about a very persistent guy won’t give up.  From the motor city.

Today (Jan. 22) is Lisa’s Birthday.  We began the day with French toast and coffee on the porch.  Our morning outing began at The Wanderer for the usual.  It was another laid back encounter with nature.  We were the only people there besides staff and friends of Noot’s who drove up from Chiang Mai to see her.  Today I noticed the Bird’s Nest Ferns and how they seem to thrive in the environment.  I also remembered to take a photo of the Green Geese (I think) who live next to the waterfall.

The dogs needed new tiny socks so we went to the Talat (market) to pick some up and also to find a silver chain for Lisa’s B’day gift.  Before we got to the entrance we stopped at a shop that sells Akha fashions.  Everything from neck-ties with needle work, dresses, vests, etc.  The thing that caused us to stop was a rack with little girl dresses with Akha designs.  Nitchanan has a birthday coming up in a few days so we shopped.  Inside the market, things were humming along.  Everyone was wearing their masks and dong the right thing.  We found everything we needed and deemed it a successful venture.

In the mornings when Nitchanan goes to school, they have been using the car, since it’s so cold.  Today they went on the motorbike.  When Natcha and Gong returned we asked why they took the bike.  Natcha told us it was at Nitchanan’s request, which made us all laugh.  One of the regular parts of her going to school is saying goodbye to Lisa, who is standing at the kitchen window, with JaiDee standing beside her (paws on the sink).  This always gets a big response from the little one.

Cat came over and went to dinner with us at Sabroso Mexican Food.  Before we left, she and Nitchanan had quite a conversation about school.  The reason we’ve been hearing so much more English from Nitchanan is her new English teacher.  She really likes her.  She speaks with a gentle voice and never yells at the kids, and sometimes gives them treats.  Well, of course she likes her (555).  She’s also using what she’s learning.  She told Cat that she wants to be able to talk to us in English.  That warmed our hearts.

At dinner we learned more interesting things about Thai culture.  Cat had questions about our views on whether there was an ‘after life’.  She had her own thoughts and wondered what we thought.  It evolved into a discussion of the belief here among some, that ghosts exist and respond to certain things.  There is even such a thing as a ghost doctor.  Needless to say, dinner was captivating.  At the end of our meal, our server brought over a piece of chocolate on chocolate cake with a candle in it.  We all ate about 1/3 and left the rest for Cat to take home to Noom.

To complete our ‘Family evening’ we took our walk around the outside of the house as usual.  After the walk we hung out and talked some more.  We told Cat about a Netflix Documentary we started last night.  It’s about the Thai Rock singer who ran the length of the country to raise money for 11 hospitals.  It’s called “2,215”, which is the number of kilometers he ran. It’s a wonderful behind-the-scenes tale of what it took to run that far.  It’s guaranteed to warm your heart.

Have a Wonderful WeekEnd.        Time for the ‘Funnies’, and Please, be careful.

                        Peace,
                                  Danny
