Inward

Hi,

We are still in the midst of what is called a monsoonal trough that originated in Viet Nam.  It’s bringing lots of rain to the north and northeast of Thailand.  Fortunately, we haven’t experienced any high winds yet, just a lot of heavy showers.

The ‘Easy Monday’ song is an old favorite.  We’ve sung this one before.  I’m tempted to tell you who sang it but wait:
“I’ve got so much honey the bees envy me.  I’ve got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees.  Well, I guess you’d say what can make me feel this way?  __ __, talkin’ ‘bout __ __ (__ __)…”  Clue:  The group was part of a motor-city powerhouse.  The song is a tribute to his girlfriend.

Last night, on our walk, there were very few people out.  On the ‘back stretch’ by the river we thought we saw a loose dog near the path.  There were people with the dog and it didn’t run around so we kept going.  When we got closer we realized it was a boom box and the two young women were practicing what looked like a line dance step.  They were dancing to a ’70’s R&B tune.  Amazing.

This photo was taken at the same place.  Couldn’t resist this beautiful sunset.

The road from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai has been under construction for several years and will probably not be finished for a few more.  Along the way, it gets little setbacks like what happened recently.  The storm system sent  a surge of water that washed away a section of highway.  There are longer ways to make the trip, but the most efficient route will be down until the end of the week.  We got a call from a food vendor we use, telling us that our delivery would be postponed until the road was repaired.  Nice of them to tell us.

This morning we went to Chivit Thamma Da.  We arrived a little later than usual because we had to go to the ‘Green Bus’ shipping center and pick up some of Lisa’s artwork.  A gallery in Chiang Mai had to close and sent us two pieces by bus.  This is a very common way to ship things, even though Kerry Express, and other shippers are now in our area.  There’s nothing like the bus and the post office here in Northern Thailand.

At Chivit we were the only patrons inside.  As a result, the ice came immediately, the coffee was strong and the scones were fresh and hot.  We had a similar experience yesterday at The Wanderer.  It must have something to do with the wet, drippy mornings.  Hmm, another reason to like this kind of weather.

Have a Happy Tuesday.

                     Peace,
                               Danny

not the outward appearance of things,
but their inward significance.”
