Vision

Hi,

We had beautiful weather for our whirlwind weekend. Our visitors got a heavy dose of Chiang Rai, and are now in Vietnam. I'll fill you in on some of the high points.

The 'Old School' song was "You Never Can Tell", by Chuck Berry. The public got reintroduced to the song in the film Pulp Fiction. Many viewers didn't realize it was an 'Old School' song. Now you know. It's time for 'Easy Monday':
"When I said I needed you, you said you would always stay. It wasn't me who changed but you, and now you've gone away..." Clues: This song has eight words in the title. It was a hit in 1966 by a British singer who is still loved by many.

Saturday morning we went to the boat dock for a ride on the Kok river. Our destination was Ban Ruimit and the elephant rides. On our way we stopped at The Buddha Cave Temple. It's an amazing cave that has two big rooms that serve as a temple, and there's a monk who lives there. The natural skylight, the rock formations, and the quietness make for a serene experience. On our way to the elephants, my straw hat blew off and went into the river. Our boat driver turned the boat around and very skillfully brought it right up to the hat. I scooped it out and we continued our trip. We opted for the half hour ride, which is enough. There were four of us on two elephants. After a slow walk up the paved road we turned into the village neighborhood. We were greeted by a small group of children who were playing in their yard. Shouts of 'Hello', and 'Good morning' brought smiles to our faces. We saw sleeping pigs, colorful butterflies and exotic tropical flowers. When we got back to the camp we went across the road for coffee. The guy was playing a CD of 60s American hits. It was very strange to go from the quiet ride atop an elephant to the strains of Sonny and Cher singing 'I Got You, Babe'. The boat ride home always seems much longer, but there was so much to see that we really didn't mind.

We lunched in town at Aye's restaurant, had coffee at Doi Chaang, and then explored the market place. Our guests were amazed at the abundance of everything in the giant maze of the market. We returned to the house for some relaxation, and then went to dinner at Mu Mai, where we got to hear our friend Jenny sing. The rest of the evening was spent laughing and talking and eating the treats we got at the market.

I'll tell you about our Sunday adventures tomorrow. Have a Great Week.

Peace,
Danny
