Friday Funnies

Hi,

Chiang Rai experienced a carbon copy day of yesterday.  North of the city it appeared to have rained lightly, but basically it was a dry day in the rainy season.  Oh, almost forgot, it was a little cooler today.  Somewhere in the mid-80’s.  We seem to be checking the Culver City weather more than the Chiang Rai.  We arrive on Monday July 8 and return to Thailand on July 22.  Maybe we’ll cross paths.  I’ll posts some phone numbers after our arrival.

‘Zany Day’ was supplied by The Lovin’ Spoonful in the form of “Nashville Cats”.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZqgFyj5uTo&frags=pl,wn  We’ll close out the week with an ‘Old School Friday’ from their first album:  “__ __ __ __ __ in a young girl’s heart, how the music can free her whenever it starts?  And it’s magic if the music is groovy.  It makes you feel happy, like an old-time movie.  I’ll tell you ‘bout the magic, and it’ll free your soul, but it’s like trying to tell a stranger ‘bout-a-rock and roll…”  Hint:  Recorded and released 1965.  Key word is in the verse.

This morning we had coffee with our friend John.  We braved the one-lane road to The Wanderer and discovered that a few cars had made it.  As we walked toward our table we got a chance to watch Joey getting a lesson from Kwan, with Mercy’s help (or was it an interruption?).  We talked for a long time about the whole airline thing, which ones had better service, whether we could use a certain lounge, and finally, learned more about Hong Kong Airlines and their flights to LAX. Our next discussion was about cultural differences that we find interesting.  Whenever we get together it seems like we could just hang out all day, laughing and learning.

There’s nothing like having access to a real ‘handyman’.  Nung has been coming to our house for years, fixing this and that.  At first we thought he just knew about electrical stuff, but then we found out he fixes whatever needs fixing.  If he doesn’t know how, he tells us right away.  Today he fixed a wall socket, a light switch, and a screen door hinge.

Nitchanan has finally taken the plunge and started ‘working’ on her bicycle.  She ignored it for a long time, but yesterday she was actually riding it, pushing the pedals and moving herself.  I remember the thrill of rolling on my own.  Once the concept of the pedals was taught to her by Natcha, it all clicked.  Natcha pushed her feet down while they were on the pedals and I guess the feeling and the result made sense.  Next up: the removal of the training wheels.

The metal roof was installed on the house behind us today.  I’m sure it’s a lot cheaper, but there is a downside to the heat that’s produced.  It will take a lot of insulation to keep it out of the living space.  But then, I don’t have to live there.  The meditation center has not had any activity in a couple of weeks.  Hmm, or is it Ohm?

We read that there was an earthquake in California.  Since no one wrote or called, I guess it’s safe to believe the news articles, that it wasn’t so harmful.  On the other hand….

I’m still trying to decide whether to send you a super early Monday message, or a very late one.  We arrive in Los Angeles on Monday at 10:30am.  It would be afternoon before a message might get composed and sent.  On the other hand, since I can’t send it from over the Pacific Ocean (at least not for free)  I could send it from Hong Kong, and it would be there when you wake up.  Hmm, maybe Hong Kong is the better idea.

The suitcases are in the corner, waiting to be filled.  Instructions have been given for the care of Daku, and now it’s just up to us to make those crucial decisions about what to take and what to leave.  I never wear all the clothes I take, so I may try packing less.  No promises, but it seems like a good idea (555).

We’ll only be gone for 2 weeks, but we’re gonna miss this view.

Have a Wonderful WeekEnd.           Here come the ‘Funnies’.

                     Peace,
                               Danny
