A Friend

Hi,

The days are heating up in Chiang Rai. For the next week we're looking for mid 90s with nights creeping up to 70. The wind gave us a little relief from the smoke, but it's still here. Early next week there is rain in the forecast. Yea.

For such an 'Easy' song, I'm surprised I didn't get more 'hits'. Here's another chance to show what you know.
"Before the rising sun, we fly. So many roads to choose, we start out walking and learn to run. And yes! __ __ __." Hint: You may have noticed that there are only 3 blanks for the hook, but the title remains the same. Ha.

These days it's feeling like a beautiful exile. Staying at home is not so bad. Looking out from any direction is a joy. When we do leave the house, it's a matter of necessity, like going to a massage appointment, getting food to eat, or some other essential thing. The air is not healthy right now, but it's a temporary thing. I don't want to scare anyone, it's getting better, but we would rather not take chances. When you can see what you're breathing, and it doesn't smell good, it's best to stay by the air purifier.

The work on the bridge is progressing. This morning on our way back from Lisa's massage we noticed that the railing and curb on one side is done. We're starting to dig it just because it's so eccentric. Can't wait until the other side is finished.

In case you didn't know, tennis and Formula One are returning soon. We actually watched a 'football' match yesterday. Well, I should say we dozed through the match. I saw an ad for 'Tiger Street Football' which is a new series touring around Thailand and I guess some other neighboring countries. Imagine 7 players per side playing on a tiny court and the surface is asphalt. Hmm, it's fast and it's furious. Like beach soccer in the street.

Sunday, on our way home from Chivit Thamma Da we saw a man picking leaves from a bush on the side of the road. He was being very specific about what he picked. I joked that he was getting a salad, but that's what he was doing. Many people know the edible plants that grow wild and stop and pick when they see them. It's not just plants either. There is a time of year when the moon does some special thing and the night air is filled with the sound of a certain insect. All over town one can see families out, 'harvesting' these insects off the ground. I just keep driving.

Have a Happy Tuesday.

Peace,
Danny
