Ironic

Hi,

Chiang Rai seems to be in a weather shift.  The sky was totally clear all day today.  We had afternoon wind, but it didn't bring anything with it.

This week's 'Easy Monday' really was easy.  Tons of mail on this one.  I was reminded that the tune is in a popular film about jet pilots.  "Now there's no welcome look in your eyes when I reach for you.  And now you're starting to criticize the things I do.  It makes me just feel like crying (baby), 'cause baby, something beautiful's dying.  __ __ __ __ __, whoa __ __ __ __ __, __ __ __ __ __ now it's gone, gone, gone..."  Hint:  Does the term 'Blue-eyed soul' ring a bell?

Last night Rudi called to say that Boot had fallen on her motorbike and had some scrapes that needed attention.  Lisa patched her up, but pulled muscles in the ribcage will take time.  Today she went to the doctor, even though she kept saying, 'I'm OK'.  We have observed, over the years, that small spills are a common occurrence for motorbike riders.  Solo falls, like the one Boot had, are often at low speed and can be painful.  There is also another common injury that passengers get and it comes in the form of a burn on the back of the calf.  Even with heat shields, people will accidentally touch their leg to the exhaust pipe and get a  burn that leaves a scar.  Once we were made aware of this, we started noticing how many people had these scars.  Hmm, life on two wheels.

In parking lots with attendants, a whistle appears to be part of the uniform.  Hotels and banks usually have someone to help you park and they always have to blow their whistle while they direct you into a space.  We used to call the attendant at the Wangcome Hotel Mr. Whistle.  It all came back to us as we were leaving the bank this morning.

With Boot out of commission for the day, we decided to lunch at Doi Chaang.  We're still in the 'Low Season' when it comes to Western tourists, but it seems like there are a lot of people from countries in the region as well as Thailand, who are visiting Chiang Rai.

Today Cat got her grades for the first half of the year through a friend on Facebook.  Normally, the school posts the grades on their website, but it didn't happen.  Her friend was at school and sent them to her.  There is a lot of school communication through Facebook, by students and teachers.  Her GPA is up from the last time so her hard work is paying off.

This photo was taken by Blue at the Riverhouse Hotel.  It is a carving from one piece of wood and took the artist one month to complete.  Amazing.

Have a Happy Tuesday.

                   Peace,
                             Danny

It takes sadness to know happiness,
noise to appreciate silence,
and absence to value presence."
