Friday Funnies

Hi,

It was another gorgeous day in Chiang Rai.  We may be out of the rain cycle.  We were out and about today and it felt good.

The 'Zany Day' song was "At The Zoo" by Simon & Garfunkel.  'Old School Friday' should be in those memory banks:  "__ __, __ __ will you be mine?  My darling dear, love you all the time.  I'm just a fool, a fool in love with you.  __ __, __ __ the one I adore.  Love you forever and ever more.  I'm just a fool, a fool in love with you."
Hint:  We've sung this one before.  It's about a being living in two dimensions, so to speak.  An R&B classic from a group named after an aquatic, tuxedo wearin' bird.

This morning we went to a place we pass almost every day, but have never been inside.  We went to the Condotel to meet Brenda and Eric, the new friends we met at the Consulate gathering a few weeks ago.  The Condotel is a 12 story condominium that we've been told was the first in Chiang Rai.  They live there and gave us a tour before going up to their place.  Most of the tenants are expats and it's a little community unto itself.  Brenda and Eric live on the 12th floor and have two great views of the city.  To the east you can see all of Chiang Rai, and to the north there is jungle right below their window, and mountains in the distance.  They also have a view of the giant Buddha.
They are enjoying life in Chiang Rai, bicycling around town and seeing things we sometimes miss while driving.  We plan to get together again next week.

Last night when Cat called for her evening chat, she told Lisa that her sister had just installed a 'hot water machine' in their shower.  Cat was very excited about this since she's gotten used to warm showers.  These devices are mounted on the wall and connect to a power line.  They provide almost instant hot water without having a water tank.  Sometimes it's easy to take certain things for granted.  Cat returns home tomorrow.

This afternoon, at Doi Chaang Coffee, a guy came in and sat next to us and I noticed his phone.  It took a few glances to confirm what I thought I saw.  It was my first 'live sighting' of the new Apple iPhone 6 Plus.  We talked to him for a minute and confirmed that he bought it in Bangkok.  This is relevant because the phones have not been officially released in Thailand yet.  Apparently, the phones are being purchased in Singapore and Hong Kong and brought to Thailand where they are being sold at nearly double the retail price.  Hmm, OK then.  I can wait.

Today's photo was shot by Blue the morning after the last big storm.  I'm making sure the drains are open and you can see by the level of the water against my boots that it's deep.  Talk about a candid moment, I didn't know he snapped this.  The water drained in a few hours and the yard looked great.

In other news, the Thailand mens' and womens' Sepak Takraw teams won gold medals at the Asian Games in Inceon, South Korea this week.  If you're not familiar with the sport, it can best be described as volleyball using only your feet and head.  Here's some footage from the games.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asdNOxWrrQ8

Have a Wonderful WeekEnd.  It's time for the 'Funnies'.   Oh, and the Formula One Grand Prix of Japan is this Sunday.  Zoom.

                    Peace,
                              Danny
