Freedom

Hi,

It was another hot day in Chiang Rai.  We spent the morning with teens, and the afternoon with celebrities.

The 'Easy Monday' song only had one reply, which tells me nothing except that maybe you were living the song (555).
"I'm painting my room in a colorful way, and when my mind is wandering, there I will go.... I'm __ __ __ where the rain gets in..."  Hint:  It's by that pesky quartet from across the pond.

Today we went on a real adventure.  What could be more challenging than a shopping trip with three teenage girls.  We took Cat and her friends Pown and Oom on an expedition to find a pretty dress for Cat.  Last Friday Cat announced to us that she had bought her first dress after school.  This led to a little discussion that ended with her wanting to find another one.  Off we went to the Talat, winding through the aisles to a shop we had in mind.  The complete cast of characters were roaming the lanes, including the inebriated man who sells steel wool pads, and the blind singer.  At another location we found a store full of pretty dresses and Cat now has a pink one.  It didn't end there.  Back in the Talat the hunt was on for shoes.  The expedition was a big success and the girls spent the afternoon in Cat's room presumably studying for tomorrow's final exams.  The way the system works here, if you don't get a passing grade on a final, you have a chance to take it again, and even if you don't bring the score up, you still move on to the next grade...

Before we left the house this morning, the yard crew arrived for the monthly grooming.  I think it's quite amazing that anybody can work outside in the heat we have at this time of year.  When the yard gets serviced the dogs have to stay in the house.  They don't like this and they get restless.  This afternoon Daku really wanted to go out for his afternoon lawn dive and roaming time, but he had to stay inside.  Right now he's undergoing close observation because he has a couple of hot spots.  If he wants to leave the room we're in, he has to wear his 'hoodie'.  He's pretty cool with that, but you can't really be a dog with that thing on your head.

The local immigration office now has permanent offices here in Chiang Rai.  That means we don't have to drive to Mae Sai for our check-ins.  Could it be that the growing number of foreigners in the area has prompted this change?

March is the month with the reputation for crop burning in the north.  On our trip to Chiang Mai we saw many large fires in distant fields.  There is a campaign to stop the burning of forest land, but the farmers seem to be immune from regulation so far.  In our village we still have trash burning, which is supposedly illegal, but with no consequence.
Eventually, things will change.  In the meantime we keep safe and stay inside.

We managed to watch The Oscars off and on during the day.  Enjoyed the show, now it's time to see the movies.  I know, a little backwards, but the whole cinema thing eludes us here.  Next big thing will be the new Formula One season which starts on the 14th of this month.  Zoom.

Today's photo was taken at Charin Gardens, our favorite pie stop.  We hadn't realized they had an aviary until we heard this beautiful bird shrieking.

Have a Happy Tuesday.

                  Peace,
                            Danny

Why not see those elephants in wild instead? Like in Kaeng Krachan National Park, or Khao Yai, or many other national parks in Thailand;

Elephant trekking business will need more elephants, more elephants will be killed in national parks so that calves can be grown up in farms for future business!
