Music

Hi,

We had beautiful weather again today, perfect for 'Father Day'.  The King celebrated a birthday and we got a mango tree.

Some of you answered this 'Zany Day' song faster than an 'Easy Monday' tune.  Here's the zany second verse:
"Sweet Loretta Martin thought she was a woman, but she was another man.  All the girls around her say she's got it coming, but she gets it while she can.  __ __, __ __, __ __ to where you once belonged..."  Clue:  It's another from those four lads from Liverpool.

This morning we took Cat to Overbrook Hospital to get a flu shot.  While we were waiting we watched the beginning of the parade of dignitaries arriving at the palace at Hua Hin, which is on the eastern coast of Thailand.  There were tens of thousands of people lining the street, waiting.  In the hospital, most of those in the big waiting area were glued to the giant screen.  The King is 86 years old and is the longest reigning monarch in the world.

After we left the hospital we went back to the garden center for another tree.  As we were riding around, looking at the variety of things to plant I mentioned that I wanted a mango tree.  Cat noticed a fruit tree at one of the vendors so we stopped.  To our surprise, they had a baby mango so we bought it.  This afternoon Lisa and I planted it in the front yard.  It will be a few years before there will be any mangos so I'll just have to wait.  Now we have coconut trees, banana trees, and the new mango tree.  Hmm, what else would be nice?

In mid afternoon we had a visit from Tawee, Beth and their baby Kate.  Tawee is the Thailand Director of The Sold Project and has been a close friend and mentor for Cat.  They had been to Central Plaza where Starbucks was giving fathers free drinks.  They brought Cat some cookies and, as Tawee put it, a non-academic book titled, 'The Heart'.  The idea is to keep a balance between what she studies, and what's good for her soul.  I love it.

Chiang Rai has an 'old airport', where people go to exercise and events are sometimes held.  There was an event in honor of the King at the airport this evening and Cat's teacher invited her to attend.  I was supposed to pick her up this evening and on my way I could see giant 'display' fireworks in the air over the city.  There was probably a parade somewhere in town during the day.

This morning the temple near us was playing music, ringing the giant gong, and a monk gave a talk.  Today seemed to have a different reverence in light of all of the political turmoil that's been going on.  Lots of shops and restaurants were closed and families were out and about.  This evening there is a quiet in the air that is a welcome change.

Today's photo is from the visit this afternoon.  Cat and Kate enjoying each other's company.

We will be coming to America in less than three weeks.  Time to start warming up that Southern California weather.

Have a Thrilling Thursday.

               Peace,
                         Danny
