Knowledge

Hi.

Today the sky was clear and beautiful.  It's a good thing, because if it had rained after the car wash I would not be too thrilled.  (555)  We had a new kind of adventure this morning.

Yea, for 'Easy Monday'.  I got lots of mail with the right answers.  Here's the second verse if you're still in doubt:
"It used to be so easy living here with you.  You were light and breezy and I knew just what to do.  Now you look so unhappy, and I feel like a fool.  And __ __ __, baby now __ __ __.  Though we really did try to make it...."  Hint:  This song was woven into a tapestry.

When we got our teeth cleaned, Lisa made an appointment to have her hearing checked.  We figured they'd have some pretty slick stuff to do that.  After we got checked in at the right station we waited a few minutes before being told that the doctor was upstairs visiting a patient.  Oh.  We went to a tiny coffee shop on the hospital grounds.  They were playing some music that we really liked so I inquired as to who it was.  The young man behind the counter wrote down the song name in Thai and the group name in English.  Back in the hospital I looked them up and found more cool songs.  It's all in Thai, but the whole sound is great.  The band is called 'Bedroom Audio'.  Lisa finally saw the doctor and was given a slip of paper for another test.  We followed an attendant to the front door and into an ambulance.  What?  We were driven up the Super Highway about a mile, to a small clinic with a very fancy testing booth.  After a short time we were driven back to the hospital, another short wait and the verdict that her ears are fine.  The adventure continues.

Chiang Rai is a city of contrasts.  On one hand, there are massive condo building projects going up all over town, giant home furnishing stores are being built, and the bridge to China is about to be opened.  On the other hand, there is a shanty town at the base of the Pink Bridge near us, with 'houses' made from old wood and tin, and on the other side of the road, under the bridge there is a mystery project that seems to require massive amounts of rebar (steel rods for reinforcing concrete).  About once a week a giant crane comes and unloads more and men do something under the bridge.  It's time to park the van and investigate.  There are places of fine dining, medium dining, and people who pick leaves on the side of the road and catch fish for dinner in the brown waters of the Mae Kok river.  Some people drive pick-up trucks that cost close to 60K US, while others haul their stuff in little trailers they tow behind a motorbike. Every day there is something seen that hasn't been seen before.  It definitely makes life interesting.

This evening, while Cat was telling us about her day, she announced that her school gave her a cash scholarship.  We asked if it was a surprise and she explained that last term her teacher asked her to tell her story, in writing.  They were apparently impressed with her story and its presentation and now she has extra money for things like uniforms, books and labs.  There is no school Thursday since it is 'Father Day', The King's Birthday.

We found out that our friend Jonathan, the English Golden Retriever, passed on today.  He was a part of our Chiang Rai experience from the early days.  He always came and greeted us when we went to Work@Home.  He will be missed by many.

Today's photo was taken in our yard.  The 'Orchid Tree' is blooming like crazy and it's wonderful.  It's actually a tree that gets just the right amount of sun and shade.  We hang the orchids there and they seem to thrive.

Have a Happy Tuesday.

                 Peace,
                           Danny
