Whatever

Hi,

We're settling down from a wild weekend that was filled with wonderful experiences. There was a super busy day in Chiang Rai and a road trip to Chiang Mai. Lights, camera, action.

The 'Old School Friday' song was that old favorite, "High Heel Sneekers" by Tommy Tucker. Now it's time for 'Easy Monday' and one that you'll surely be humming: "They say the neon light are bright __ __, they say there's always magic in the air. But when you're walkin' down that street, and you ain't had enough to eat, the glitter rubs right off and you're nowhere, (__ __)." Hint: It's a song about a famous street in the Big Apple. The song first drifted across the airwaves as a recording by a group, and was later a hit by a solo singer/guitarist.

Saturday morning we went to Le Meridien Hotel for the opening ceremonies for their all-day Open House. We missed the presentation of the 'Wedding Segment', where they touted the hotel's ability to host a dream wedding. They showcased 'brides and grooms' in fancy outfits and table settings were on display. Various other features of the hotel were shown through little skits, and there was a preview of the fashion show that would be held in the evening. The Governor of the Province of Chiang Rai gave a speech and there was lots of media from as far away as Bangkok. Outside on the main parking apron there was a display of high-end cars that are being sold by CNY, a company that imports toys like AMG Mercedes, Lexus, and BMW. Not what one usually sees around town.

After the ceremony we went down to the pool area where there was an art exhibit. Lisa's very large cast acrylic print was there along with work by many local artists. There were crafts, face-painting for the kids, and music by a group of children using bamboo instruments that they shake to produce a particular note in the scale. Together they created harmonies and melodies that filled the area with an authentic feeling of Thailand.

We went home for lunch and then later picked up Jaffee for a trip to Central Plaza and the One Year Anniversary celebration of the opening of Robinson, a major department store and the mall. They presented a swimsuit fashion show and we saw the Governor once again. He had a busy day. On the main floor of the mall the dinosaur exhibit was back and there were lots of kids 'working' in a big sand box, uncovering the bones of pre-historic beasts. They were very cute in their goggles and aprons, brushing away sand to discover skeletons.

After a trip to the house for a wardrobe change we returned to Le Meridien for the fashion show presented by Chezmoi, a boutique clothing store. It was held outside under a giant Rain Tree as the sun was setting. Near the end of the show the wind started blowing and leaves began to fall from the tree. At first it added a mystical effect but it soon became too much and the show was stopped. The artwork had to be moved inside since big wind usually means rain. There was a light rain but nothing was damaged.

The wine tasting party was to be held by the river in an outdoor setting, but that had to be moved to the ballroom of the hotel. This took the staff some time to accomplish so we had to wait. During the wait it was a great opportunity to visit with old friends and meet some new ones. Once we were inside, the last part of the fashion show was presented and then the wine and food began. I sipped Sprite but none of the food they served with each wine samples was anything I would eat. We shared a little round table with a couple from Chiang Mai. We made friend quickly and had many interesting conversations over the course of the evening.

Tomorrow I'll tell you about our trip to Chiang Mai. I will tell you that Lisa was interviewed by a crew from a TV program that airs here in Southeast Asia.

Have a Great Week.

Peace,
Danny
