Colours

Hi,

All forecasts point to rain but nothing has fallen from the sky. Task forces and think tanks are trying to figure out how to get rid of the haze and stop the burning. Meanwhile, I'm wrapping up day 2 of not feeling so good. It's better, but I want it gone. I predict that I will wake up tomorrow feeling like a million bucks. Hmm, who knows what money feels like?

'Easy Monday' should have been a snap. It was "On Broadway". Most of you know it as a hit by George Benson, but some of us 'old people' remember The Drifters original version. At this point I should mention that almost all of the songs mentioned here can be heard on Youtube. Sometimes there's a video clip, sometimes just audio. We have arrived, once again, at that day for 'Bad Ass Bass' and a bit of a challenge: "Hello, my love I heard a kiss from you. Red magic satin playing near, too. All through the morning rain I gaze, the sun doesn't shine. Rainbows and waterfalls run through my mind..." Hint: Record by a Duo who backed many of recording's great stars. Title is three words and a number. The bass playing brother is legendary. I had to give you a hard one, just because.

When we returned from our island trip we noticed more construction on the beach near our house. Every day more structures spring up. There are family hang-outs, vendor shacks, and food service huts, plus little floating squares for eating on the water. Songkran begins on April 13 so this early preparation is probably due to the crowds last year and the heat of this year. On the side of the road I saw a truck covered with squirt guns of every size and description.

All of the clothing stores have a huge inventory of flower shirts (Hawaiian motif) on display. Songkran will be bigger this year by the fact that there are more people here. There is a deeper traditional meaning to Songkran than just throwing water on people. It marks the beginning of a new solar year and is the Thai new year. The pouring of water signifies the cleansing of body, mind and spirit. Traditionally there are specific days for certain ceremonies. One day, for instance, is for the pouring of scented water over the hands of elders, as a sign of respect and gratitude. There is another day for the washing of The Buddha. What is seen in the street is just plain old water play. As things get closer I'll let you in on Songkran in Chiang Rai.

Feels like a Wacky Wednesday.

Peace,
Danny
