History

Hi,

Well, it was just like yesterday.  That monotonous weather that we love so much (555).  It’s gonna change, I just know it.

This week’s ‘Jazzy Wednesday’ was written in 1940 and has had an amazing journey through time.  The version looping in my mind is from somewhere around 1960 by a jazz legend.  “Somewhere there’s music, how near how far.  Somewhere there’s heaven, it’s where you are.  The darkest night would shine it you would come to me soon.  Until you will, how still my heart __ __ __ __.”  Clue: The singer was known not only for your beautiful voice, but also her ability to ‘scat sing’, mimicking horn players and their solos, with the best of them.  We think of planets as being pretty __ in the sky.  The one at night is a good example.

This morning things began a little earlier.  Lisa was being picked up at 8:50am for a photo shoot at Wat Rong Khun and there was hair, make-up and costuming to do.  Natcha’s friend ‘Nee’ came over and helped Lisa get ready.  When she came downstairs she had been transformed.

We learned that the photographer who did the shoot has a site that is promoting tourism, with Chiang Rai as a destination.  Later, we will get copies of the photos taken at the temple, with is a big attraction itself.

Right before lunch we got a special delivery from our friend Bobby Bo.  Bobby is a baker and used to have a shop in town.  We were mad about his cookies.  When he read about my heart attack he offered to make some cookies.  He ended up making me a box of dairy-free brownies.  We sat and had a really nice conversation about the growth in our area, the various Covid things one talks about, and his family.  He and his wife bake for a coffee shop called The Secret Garden that’s just north of us and sounds interesting.  His wife makes the tortillas for Sabroso.  This world keeps getting smaller and better.  Oh, the brownies are absolutely delicious.

Things I didn’t know about my neighborhood:  Bed Villa has now added ‘Bed and Breakfast’ to their name.  The hotel down the road formerly known as The Rimkok (and still called that by us) was a quarantine location for Thai travelers coming to Chiang Rai from Phuket.  The average cost for a 14 day stay was around 40,000 Baht ($1,275).

Have a Thrilling Thursday.

                              Peace,
                                        Danny
