Heart

Hi,

In spite of what you've been hearing about Thailand, Songkran is in full effect. Water, water everywhere. We went to a party on Sunday, and today we dodged water, and got a massage.

Our 'Old School' song was by The Dells. "Oh, What A Night" was their first big hit back in '56. Now it's time for 'Easy Monday', and I'm sure a lot of you remember this one by a guy whose nickname was 'Runt'. "Leroy, boy, is that you? I thought your post-hangin' days were through. Sunk-in eye, and full of sighs, tell no lies, you get wise....there's only one thing left that we can do. __ __ __ __ __ __...." Clue: A friend is going to help Leroy with matters of the heart.

It's been really hot here, so Songkran has brought some welcome relief for some. All over town you can see people riding on their motorbikes, soaking wet from all the water that's being tossed on them. 'Water tossing stations', as I like to call them, are all over town. Some are merely a small child with a bucket and a bowl, others are adults with music blaring, and trash cans full of water. There are, of course, the pick-up trucks with 50 gallon drums on the back with young men and women having a rolling party. There is a festive feeling as we ride down the street. You can hear big outbursts of cheering when someone gets wet. The actual holiday is from the 13th to the 15th, but it will go on all week.

Sunday we went to Big C for lunch and shopping. After a short nap, we went to a party at the home of our friends Gary and Baan. They just completed their new house, which was designed by our friend Nine, who is co-owner of 9 Art Gallery. We met a bunch of new people, and had a good time. There were expats from New Zealand, Australia, and Puerto Rico. Lots of interesting conversations, and sharing the stories as to why we were in Thailand. We also got lots of cool ideas for things we can do with our house.

Today we ventured out and got a massage. Since most of the schools are out for 'summer' vacation, there were tons of kids in the streets throwing water. There was no activity near the massage parlor so we were 'safe'. (Ha)

Tomorrow morning we'll drive up to Mae Sai for our routine, three month visa check-in. It will be nice to get out on the highway for awhile.

Have a Great Week.

Peace,
Danny
