Sharing

Hi,

Today was a beautiful day in Chiang Rai.  Boot returned from her vacation, we spent the morning in town, and had a swim before the rain.  Oh, no aftershocks.

Well, nobody seems to know the 'Zany Day' song except Lisa.  I just know you'll kick yourself when you find out what it is.  Take a stab at it.  "Leroy, boy, you're my friend.  You say how and I'll say when.  Come and meet me down the street, take a seat, it's my treat.  You may not ever get this chance again, that empty feeling's just about to end... __ __ __ __ __ __, and when we're through with you, we'll get me one too."  Clue:  The singer is trying to help his friend find someone.

This morning we got the 'all clear' from Khun Mahn, who said we had nothing to worry about as far as the condition of the house.  There are windows to be sealed and a few other things, but we had no serious damage from the quake.  Whew.

The dogs were quite excited when Boot returned this morning.  BamBam insisted on going to Boot's house to be with her 'mommy'.  The trip was a big success and she got to visit with all of her family.  We are also very happy that she's back.  Taking care of ourselves proved to be a lot of work (555).

During our shopping trip to Big C we saw several areas of the store that were blocked off.  I couldn't tell exactly why, but it looked like it was for safety reasons.  We had seen photos posted after the quake showing things that had toppled to the floor there.  We also had things shift and fall over on shelves and it was interesting to see that the direction was consistent with the motion of the quake.  It was as if a wave had rippled through the house.  Hmm, science.

If the earthquake wasn't enough to rattle Thailand, the Prime Minister was removed from office today, along with nine cabinet members.  The reason was 'abuse of authority'.  The country now enters another chapter in the ongoing saga that is politics, Thai style.  The beauty of living in the far north is that most of this has little effect on daily life.  Bangkok, however, is not out of the woods.  There will be more marches and demonstrations, but life will continue.

The road to Chiang Mai has been repaired and is now open.  This will be good news for all those who depend on this vital link to the 'big city'.  With Chiang Rai in a 'boom town' phase, the moving of goods is very important.  It will be interesting to see how the rebuilding of schools, homes and hospitals progresses with so many workers needed.  Before the quake, there was so much building going on that it seemed like everyone was working.  This may be an opportunity for workers from other areas to get jobs.

Today's photo is from the archives.  You may remember this 'little girl' who turns the chicken all day long at a roadside stand by our bridge.  Yesterday we finally stopped and bought a chicken from her.  The chicken was delicious and we'll probably return for more.

Have a Thrilling Thursday.

                  Peace,
                            Danny
