Telescope

Hi,

The 'Summer' heatwave has begun. Wishing for rain just doesn't seem to make it happen. Saturday's benefit/art project was a big success, Sunday was mellow, and today was a day of prep for our house guests.

Well, our 'Old School Friday' song has many spellings, but it all comes out the same: "Maybellene" by Chuck Berry. As my brother Denny put it, 'I don't know how to spell it but they make eye-liner'. Well played. For 'Easy Monday', ponder these lyrics: "I want you to want me, I need you so badly I can't think of anything but you..." Hint: It's by a 'Little' guy who seems to be losing his mind. Hmm.

Saturday morning when we arrived at Sahapaiboon, there was lots of activity going on. There were two MCs who were introducing members of the Chiang Rai Youth Orchestra, and the children were waiting to draw pictures. After some introductions, Lisa got comfortable with the kids just before she was called to the stage to be introduced to the patrons in the store. Khun Jaa translated Lisa's opening remarks and then it was time to work with the kids. There were eight of them, between about six and twelve years old. She showed them some techniques for working with oil pastels (a kind of soft crayon) and passed out some pictures of trees and flowers. They practiced a bit and then were given big paper to create their masterpieces. There was an older girl who couldn't be a part of the 'contest', but who apparently liked to draw. After some encouragement, she began to draw a spectacular flower. All of the children made some really wonderful drawings and I'm just glad I didn't have to make any decisions as to which was 'better'. In the end, all of them got a prize, and the three trophy winners were quite thrilled. I'll be posting some pictures from the event this week.

Our party is growing, and now it looks like there will be up to thirty guests. Blue arrives tonight, and Cousin Sam and his girlfriend Emma are in Thailand and will come to Chiang Rai later this week.

I have to run now. The airport is calling. Have a Great Week.

Peace,
Danny
