Failure

Hi,

Today’s forecast was just like any other day, except it delivered.  We had a nice downpour this afternoon.  We’re hoping the system clears out in time to see the night sky.

It looks like this ‘Zany Day’ song is still in rotation in many of your memory banks.  Here’s the second verse:
“The telephone is ringing I say, ‘Hi, it’s me.  Who is there on the line?’  A voice says, ‘Hi, hello, how are you?’  Well, I guess I’m doin’ fine.  He says, ‘It’s three a.m., there’s too much noise, don’t you people ever want to go to bed?  Just because you feel so good, do you have to drive me out of my head?’  I says, Hey, you, __ __ __ __ __….”   Hint:  Singer is about to have his 19th nervous breakdown if not left alone to do his thing.  He’s floating on something.

We should have known that the day after a big holiday would be a major shopping day at Makro.  The parking lot was intense.  After circling three times we found the perfect spot.  Inside it was very busy, but not unmanagable.
While shopping we saw a cart with the longest fish we’d ever seen in a grocery store.  It was over 3 feet long, and slender.  Next time we’re there I’m going to check out the fish department and search out the mystery fish.

On the highway we were slowed by a police check.  They were having a big day with the motorbikes, checking everyone’s paperwork.  There was quite a line of bikes, waiting to be scrutinised, and another line waiting to pay their fines.  Cars and trucks are basically waved through unless they spot an expired registration card.  The registration certificate has to be mounted in the lower left corner of the windshield, which makes it easy to do a  quick check.  So exciting (555).

During our morning shopping, the repair guys came and fixed the air/con.  Since it had recently been serviced, they didn’t charge us.  Now we have our cool room back and life is good.  At least we know what to do in case this happens again.

I found more information on the ‘Ride for Mom’.  It takes place on August 16 in most of the larger cities in Thailand.  In Bangkok 40,000 riders have signed up for the ride.  The course will be 43K and they plan on having water and medical teams all along the route.  We don’t know exactly what Chiang Rai has planned, but it starts at Cat’s school.  This will be quite an event and we just may have to find a spot and cheer them on.

At lunch we were doing our usual thing of making jokes about the weather forecasts from the various services.  They have a new term: ‘around’ as in, 'a thunderstorm and shower around.'  Oh, that’s so helpful.  Imagine our surprise when it actually rained today.  The photo for today was taken from our upstairs balcony.  The sun is shining on the yard, but the rain clouds were on the way.

Tomorrow the yard gets a much-needed haircut.  It will be nice to be able to exercise Daku on the lawn.  We’ve had to keep him on the driveway this week because the tall grass is too distracting.  It will also be easier for the humans to walk around.

Have a Thrilling Thursday.

              Peace,
                        Danny
