Friday Funnies

Hi,

Hot was the order of the day in Chiang Rai.  We made a couple of trips to town, I drove to the country, and our student guest is in Rayong for the weekend.

This week's 'Zany Day' song only got two 'hits', from Denny and Christopher.  It was "Beep Beep" by The Playmates.  'Old School Friday brings a bit of musical history with a 'slow song' that has lived through many generations.
"You're my love, you're my angel, you're the girl of my dreams.  I'd like to thank you for waiting patiently.  __ __, your __ __ to stay.  How I've waited for this moment, to be by your side.  Your best friend wrote and told me you had teardrops in your eyes.  __ __, your __ __ to stay."  Hint:  This is an 'answer song'.  In the first song there were a bunch of miles mentioned in the title.  The first song was in '57 and the answer came in '61.

This morning we went into town early.  We wanted to get to the bank before it got busy.  It was a normal bit of business, and an exercise in understanding.  When the assistant manager was finishing up with us he asked, "Is Thailand happy today?".  Hmm, what he meant was:  "Are you still happy in Thailand?"  It took a second to figure it out, but we did.  I suppose it was easier to figure out than some of the things we say to people in Thai.

There is a large intersection at King Mengrai Square, with a long traffic light sequence.  While sitting there we noticed a trash truck one vehicle ahead of us.  Sitting on top of the truck was a person.  When the light changed I managed to get in a position so Lisa could capture this bizarre but common sighting.

                      Ridin' High on the Trash

On our way home from the bank we passed Bliss Studio and realized that we had some artwork that needed to be photographed.  We went home, got the artwork and went back to town.  Riding through town we noticed several people riding bicycles on the main, busy streets.  They appeared to be oblivious to the cars and trucks that whizzed by them.  One woman was slowly pedaling as if she was on a quiet country road.  I would be terrified, which is why I don't do that.  In fact, that's why we gave our bikes away.

This afternoon I went out to New Life Foundation.  On my way home I saw a man sitting on a motorbike by the side of the road.  He was 'tending' his small herd of cows who were grazing.  If he's there next week I'm taking his picture. Down the road from him there was a man in a hammock, gently swaying while talking on a phone.  Hmm.

We went for a swim this afternoon, but had to cut it short due to smoke.  It's a pain but we deal with it by staying inside and filtering the air.

Tatt, our high school house guest took a bus to him home town of Rayong, yesterday evening.  Sunday morning he will go to Bangkok for testing for college entrance.  He will return on Monday.  We miss him and so do the dogs.

On Monday morning we will take our first ride in a Chiang Rai Taxi.  We'll use the service to get to the bus station for our trip to Chiang Mai.

Have a Wonderful WeekEnd.   Stay tuned for the 'Funnies'.

                     Peace,
                                Danny

An Amazing Talking Dog

A man and his dog walk into a bar. The man proclaims, "I'll bet you a
round of drinks that my dog can talk."

Bartender: "Yeah! Sure...go ahead."

Man: "What covers a house?"

Dog: "Roof!"

Man: "How does sandpaper feel?"

Dog: "Rough!"

Man: "Who was the greatest ball player of all time?"

Dog: "Ruth!"

Man: "Pay up. I told you he could talk."

The bartender, annoyed at this point, throws both of them out the
door. Sitting on the sidewalk, the dog looks at the guy and says, "or
is the greatest player Mantle?"
