Hi,
We had a rather routine day on this side of the Pacific. The hot got even hotter and the 'guest swimmer' season has begun.
That elusive 'Easy Monday' song was "Anyone Who Had A Heart" by Dionne Warwick. I'll bet you know this 'Zany Day' tune. It came from a band that is still at it, after half a century. "What a drag it is getting old. 'Kids are different today,' I hear every mother say, mother needs something today to calm her down. And though she's not really ill, there's a little yellow pill. She goes running for the shelter of her __ __ __, and it helps her on her way, gets her through her busy day..." Clue: Mom is getting some outside help? This sort of thing is frowned upon these days. Hmm
Today was a mellow day at the Big Brown House. Speaking of that designation, we got mail from our friends Louise, Jesper, and Rasmus and it was addressed to 'The Big Brown House'. What a kick. They sent us a hand-written invitation to their wedding in Denmark. It's not very often that we get mail so it was quite a treat.
This afternoon during our swim we realized that Kwang had some helpers in the yard. Her daughter and three other kids were sharing a rake, sort of hanging around. They were here to swim. They know from last year that they have to wait until we finish, but it's a little weird having these kids watch, like animals sharing a watering hole. We'll have to have 'the talk' again and set some ground rules. I don't blame them, it was hotter than usual today and the pool was a great relief. I suppose that even in one's clothes it feels good. Yes, people swim in their clothes. I think the swimsuits that are sold in the shops are bought by those who travel to the beaches and resorts. I have never seen anyone in the river in a bathing suit. Amazing.
We are on a mission to make some adjustments in the landscape department before the rainy season arrives. There are some bush/tree things along the back wall that produce little green apple-like fruit. The dogs like to eat them but we're not OK with that. Plus, they require a lot of clean up. Tomorrow we're going to visit our friend Siam, who is an expert on bamboo. He's going to show us the kind to get that won't take over the yard, but will provide a barrier between us and the farm and future housing. This also means that the existing plants have to be removed and hauled away. There is a small window of time before Songkran to make arrangements, then work stops for 10 days.
This year Songkran begins, officially, on 13 April and the water part lasts about 5 days. The 10 day period is an allowance given to people who return to their home villages to be with family. When we were building our house, it was understood that all work would stop during the holiday. The camping and river play have already begun in the area by the Pink Bridge. It's like a community has sprung up, just hanging out, dangling their feet in the cool water, and building more huts and shelters. It's still over a week before the whole things really starts. This should be an interesting time.
Our photo for today is the traditional Thai musicians waiting to perform. They sat there for a long time, a lesson in patience every time I passed them.
Waiting to Play
It's time for Wacky Wednesday
Peace,
Danny
