Amazed

Hi,

The Songkran hangover seems to be over and things are returning to normal.  We're still having hot, humid days with occasional clouds.  There was also a thunderstorm with no rain.  What?

Just when my faith in human memory was almost gone, two friends remembered the 'Old School Friday' song.  The song was "The Way You Look Tonight" as sung by The Jaguars.  Congrats to Lisa and Cindi for knowing the tune and Christopher for figuring out it was The Jaguars.  Let's see how we do with 'Easy Monday':  "__ __ all in my brain.  Lately things just don't seem the same.  Actin' funny, but I don't know why.  'Scuse me while I kiss the sky..."  Clue:  There's a color involved and it's not rain.  (555)

Saturday morning we went to Makro and got the evaporative cooler machine.  When we got it home we set it up with a little help from Boot.  The whole manual was in Thai.  Most of it's pretty simple, there are icons that explain each function.  We now have a way to cool our eating area without trying to push the air/con from another room.  The other nice thing about it is the large filter on the back that cleans the air that it pushes out.  Great, considering our air these days.

In the afternoon, with help from our friend Chalit, we connected with the cookie guy.  It turns out that he is from Chicago and the little coffee shop/bakery isn't even open yet.  We went by in the afternoon and picked up the cookies that I liked and some brownies that are also quite good.  We'll still make cookies at home, but it was nice to meet another expat and have a source for brownies.

Sunday, while we were at the Heathy Market, our friend Johan called and explained more about the pool mechanics.  When we got home I followed his advice and got the filter running.  We swam in the afternoon in very pleasant water.

Chalit came over for coffee this morning and in the course of many topics, I asked him about the parade we saw at the beginning of Songkran.  He said it has to do with people taking materials to the temple for building.  Even if there isn't a building project, the materials represent a renewed commitment to the foundation of the temple.  Bamboo poles and sand are the usual gifts.  This is a tradition that is not practiced a lot in the more metropolitan areas.  I guess that explains the parade of trucks going out of town.  The longer we stay here the more we learn.

This evening we took Boot and her boyfriend Rudy to dinner to celebrate Boot's birthday.  We had a very nice time at Sawadee Restaurant in the Night Bazaar.  After dinner they brought out the cake we gave them.  They also played a birthday song over the sound system.  It was a big surprise for Boot and she really enjoyed it.

Today's photo is a wooden sculpture installed in front of Art Bridge.  We don't know much about it yet, but it's a definite departure from traditional works.

The weather forecasts are predicting higher percentages of possibilities, so maybe, there might be some rain in the near future.  Is that vague enough for you?

Have a Great Week.

                     Peace,
                                Danny
