Open

Hi,

As Chiang Rai's 'High Season' kicks into gear the weather couldn't be better.  We put on our 'tour guide' hats and began showing our visitor the local sights.

'Easy Monday' was "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield.  The group is named after a steamroller.  Now we dive into our 'Zany Day' song.  This little drama should bring back some memories.  It's zany yet serious.
Spoken: "Is she really going out with him?  Well, there she is.  Let's ask her.  Betty, is that Jimmy's ring you're wearing?  Mm-Hmm.... By the way, where'd you meet him?  I met him at the candy store, he turned around and smiled at me, you get the picture?  (yes, we see)  That's when I fell for __ __ __ __ __."  Hint: Think: 'The Wild One' and you're on the right track.  The group name is a mythical place.

This morning I got a gentle massage and then we hung out talking with Mari.  We're learning a lot about village life in Uganda and it's fascinating.  In the early afternoon we went into town and got coffee at Doi Chaang.  It's one of those places we always take visitors because of the great ambience and the coffee.

Our friends Martin and Kay are getting close to finishing their venture, 'NorThai'.  We stopped by after coffee to see the progress and show Mari what it will be like.  Unfortunately, she leaves the day of the grand opening.  The whole thing is quite impressive and when it's open it will be a great place to hang out, eat, enjoy art and shop.

This evening we went to the Night Bazaar and looked around.  There are lots of 'visitors' in town and many of the vendors had new products for sale.  It seems like a long time since we'd been there, but it's only been a few weeks.  We've been out of our rhythm of every Sunday night and we missed the transition of seasons.

When we first visited Thailand in 2001 we landed at the same airport we used on this recent trip.  It was the only airport in Bangkok.  There is a building on the highway that we hadn't seen in 11 years but I managed to get a shot of it from the taxi.  If you look closely you will see an elephant.

Tomorrow we will see some sights around Chiang Rai.  It's fun to be a tourist sometimes.

Stay tuned for Wacky Wednesday.

                Peace,
                           Danny

"You can't grasp it, but you can't lose it.
It winds its own way.
When you are silent, it speaks.
When you speak, it is dumb.
There are no obstacles.
The great gate of love is wide open."
