Hi,
We just returned from the Night Bazaar (NB). It's after 9pm here. Today we had cake with lunch, a visit from a friend, and a sky that got cloudy then cleared.
The boogie tune a handful of you remembered was "Taking Care of Business" by Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO). That one brings back memories. For "Old School Friday" we'll travel back to '61 and see if you know this classic:
"You're my love, you're my angel (rat-a-tat), you're the girl of my dreams. I'd like to thank you for waiting patiently. __ __, __ __ to stay." Hint: If you've been paying attention, you'll know that this song title is also the name of a Chiang Rai art event. It's an answer song as well. Extra points if you know the song it answered.
Today (in Thailand) is Lisa's birthday. Boot picked up a little cake on her morning food run and surprised Lisa with it at lunch. Sutheera called her this morning and sang 'Happy Birthday', our friend Tye came over this afternoon and brought her some gifts and they visited for awhile. This evening we went 'out on the town' and had dinner at the NB. On top of all that, Lisa finished the new piece she's been working on, and if the sun is strong enough this weekend (part of the process in the print making), it may make the show at Le Meridien. It's been quite a day for the B'day Kid.
It is said that Golden Retrievers can learn around 200 words. Daku is well on his way. In fact, both dogs are understanding a lot of verbal references and maybe someday we'll actually have conversations. (Ha) You do remember the joke about the talking dog, right?
On our way home this evening we passed a Chinese temple and heard the sound of drums and cymbals. A group was practicing their Lion Dance routine. I just caught a glimpse of the two-man beast as we drove by. There is a very diverse cultural/spiritual make-up here in Chiang Rai. Walk into various shops and businesses around town and you'll see some sort of shrine somewhere, with an offering of food and/or drink in place.
Now it's time for the 'Funnies'. Have a Dry WeekEnd.
Peace,
Danny
Lipstick at School
According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington
recently was faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old
girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the
bathroom.
That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press
their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints.
Every night, the maintenance man would remove them and the next day,
the girls would put them back. Finally the principal decided that
something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and
met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these
lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to
clean the mirrors every night.
To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she
asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was
required. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the
toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no
lip prints on the mirror.
There are teachers, and then there are educators...
