Build

Hi,

Life in Chiang Rai is quiet for us right now.  Our 'outside time' is limited as we try to stay out of the bad air.  The dogs are frustrated since their playtime is cut short, and we are frustrated because our swim time has been cancelled.  On the bright side, there is rain in the forecast for Friday.

There's still time to be on the list of winners who knew the 'Easy Monday' song.  The key word in this two word title is defined as an oscillation of the parts of a fluid or an elastic solid whose equilibrium has been disturbed.  I know that's a mouthful, but it is what it is.  "Close my eyes, she's somehow closer now.  Softly smile, I know she must be kind.  When I look in her eyes, she goes with me to a blossom world.  I'm pickin' up __ __, she's givin' me the excitations.... I don't know where but she sends me there...."  Hint: This American group started off singing about cars and surf.  I doubt if this song is about the tune-up on their little deuce coupe.

This morning we noticed that the traffic is getting a little heavier.  I took Lisa for her massage and there was a much longer line of cars on a street that usually isn't so crowded.  One of our friends suspects that it has to do with people returning home for Songkran.  Last year the government offered a big rebate for first-time car buyers and a lot more cars hit the roads.  It figures that people who left Chiang Rai and bought a car might drive that car back here rather than take a bus.  At any rate, it's going to be busy on the streets until late next week.  Another reason to stay at home.

For some reason, our back lawn is a different kind of grass than the front.  Hmm, they were supposed to be the same.  Oh well, it turns out that the back grows much faster than the front and this has prompted us to consider getting a lawnmower to keep it low until the yard crew comes.  It's been three weeks since everything was cut and the back is already getting long.  They can't come back until after Songkran, which will be another two weeks.  Then there's the whole thing of what to do with the grass cuttings.  I guess they could always be used as mulch in the abandoned field next to us.

Looks like it could use some mulch

Today the temperature in the pool was 80 F and the air was super hot.  To turn and walk back into the house was very difficult.  On the other hand, one look at the haze covering the hill to the west and it made perfect sense.  Our air filter machine is making all the difference these days.  When I leave the room and smell the air from outside it's pretty obvious.  The government is now offering rewards for photos of people starting forest fires.  People go into the forests and burn off areas for planting of crops.  This problem has become more severe for at least two years around this time.  There is a site that NASA has that shows fires in different parts of the world and Thailand and surrounding countries have a large number of fires that have been identified from space.  Oh my.

One good thing about all this time in the house: More artwork.  Lisa just finished another amazing cast acrylic print.  She's also developing new little techniques to add to the process and new ideas come as a result.

Have a Happy Tuesday.

                     Peace,
                                Danny
