Art

Hi,

So, we’re still in this heat wave and it’s not letting up just because the sun went down.  Sometimes the forecast will say ‘100 but feels like 108’.  What?  Let me be the judge of how hot it feels.  Today it felt like 105.  There may be rain on Thursday.  Tonights low will be 82, and tomorrow’s high will be 101.  More pool time will be needed.

Quite a few of you knew the ‘Easy Monday’ song.  Most of you couldn’t remember the group that sang this:
“But at night it’s a different world.  Go out and find a girl.  Come-on, come-on and dance all night.  Despite the heat it’ll be alright.  And babe, don’t you know it’s a pity, that the days can’t be like the nights in the __ __ __ __, in the __ __ __ __…”  Hint:  Something about the hottest season of the year.

The last time we visited the States we became friends with Google Maps.  The voice in the program gave us pretty good directions for getting around town.  Here in Thailand, we have used Google Maps a few times.  The average wasn’t good, but we figured she’s new to the area (555).  Today we gave her a challenge.  We had a lunch date at the home of our friends Pouy and Jimmy, who live at Santiburi Golf Estates.  We were taken on an adventure we hadn’t counted on.  We did see a part of the east side of Chiang Rai that was new to us.  We went in several circles, back tracked a few times, and were given directions to drive into the lake.  That’s when I took over and followed my instincts.  We got there in a few minutes.  Lunch in their new house was very good, looking out on the giant lake, we walked down memory lane.  We met Pouy almost 10 years ago when she had a booth at the Night Bazaar selling hand made items.  Her mother gave us our first banana tree.  Photos later this week.

The crowds are settling in across the river in preparation for the coming festivities.  We’ve had nightly music since Saturday night.  Every time we cross the river we see a larger gathering.  Today there were people in the water.  This afternoon, Gong and Natcha went to the river with Neetchanon, but didn’t go in because the water is not very clean.

Cat came over and spent the day at the house.  After dinner we went swimming.  There is something about hanging out in the pool and talking.  We stayed in as the sun set.  One of the topics that came up was the dying of hair this time of year.  Cat explained that it’s a summertime thing.  Kids can do it because there is no school in session, but have to make it all black when they go back to class.  Adults not in school just let it fade away.  Now we know.

Today’s photo was taken this evening.  This is the blue phase of the ever-changing lights.  They also go to green, red, and mixtures that make for interesting effects in the water.

Have a Happy Tuesday.

                    Peace,
                              Danny
