The weather in Chiang Rai has stayed in the same pattern all week. The nights are getting very cool, but the days warm up to almost hot. It’s something we can live with (have no choice) while we wait for the cold season.
The ‘Zany Day’ song was “Mercedes Benz” by Janis Joplin. To close out the Joplin week, a song from the ‘road’:
“Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waiting for a train, I was feeling near as faded as my jeans. Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained, and rode us all the way to New Orleans… Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose. Nothing don’t mean nothing honey, if it ain’t free. And feeling good was easy Lord, when he sang the blues. You know feeling good was good enough for me. Good enough for __ __ __ __.” Clue: There is a name in the title.
Last night the little dog slept all night until 6am. That’s the longest stretch any of us has had since he moved in (555). I hope it wasn’t a fluke. He didn’t get to go with us for coffee yesterday, so this morning the three of us went to The Wanderer. JaiDee is approaching celebrity status at our coffee spots. The Wanderer staff bring his stuff and then want to hang around and play with him. Today, Mercy came out and visited. JaiDee was prodding her to play, but she didn’t want to jump around so she got up on a stone bench. JaiDee couldn’t quite get his back legs up high enough and had to give up. Once the petting and play ended, he settled down under the table for some serious teething, chewing on the metal base of an antique Singer Sewing Machine.
The changing color on JaiDee’s back.
JaiDee vs the Singer Sewing Machine
After coffee, we all went to Browney’s for kibble and a small bed to put in JaiDee’s large crate. He loves to go to the pet supply store and be overwhelmed with the smell of food. He was a little less crazy this morning, but still ready to eat it all. We dropped the puppy at home and went to the big market downtown (the Talat). Everything you can imagine is for sale in the giant complex of shops and stalls. Today’s mission was small waist bags for treats during the training of Mr. Puppy, and baskets for organizing. Up and down the aisles we went, not getting lost like the early days, but close. If you don’t stay current, and a new stall opens with different stuff, you lose a landmark and Bam!, you’re lost. We found everything we went for, including a new pair of shoes for me.
We had to make a second trip to Browney’s because the bed was too small. We got the right size and decided to stop at Chivit Thamma Da. The place was packed and we had to sit upstairs. JaiDee’s minions were there to serve him and when he balked at the stairs, one of his staff members carried him up for us. Cat met us and the three of us hung out while working to keep JaiDee from eating the furniture. When it was time to leave, Lisa and the dog waited while I got the van. The foot traffic delighted in visiting with JaiDee and he was very gracious.
Then there was dinner, the dentist, and a walk around the government building. We’re all ready for a nap.
Have a Wonderful WeekEnd. Time for the ‘Funnies’. This weekend Formula 1 is in Texas. Tune in, Zoom!
Peace,
Danny
