Truth

Hi,

Our weekend could be described as pretty mellow with interludes of great intensity.  If you include the fact that it stayed dry, then it was a very cool weekend.

The 'Old School Friday' tune was "Knock On Wood" by Eddie Floyd.  Say 'Hello' to 'Easy Monday'.  You know this one:
"Set me free, why don't cha babe.  Get out my life, why don't cha babe... But you don't really love me, but
__ __ __ __ __."  Hint: There is a musical hook that feels like Morse code, three wigs, three gowns, and lots of gold.

Saturday we got a double dose of the Super Highway construction.  In the morning we went to Makro early, which paid off as far as the traffic goes.  It's what I could almost call a routine run.  There seems to be another shortage of celery, but there's an abundance of durian if one is so inclined.  (555)

After lunch we picked up Chalit and Amber and went up the highway to a building across the road from Makro.  This was a meeting of Chiang Rai artists and we knew it had something to do with securing the building for use as a gallery. When we arrived we saw tons of artists friends we haven't seen in a long time.  The chair of the committee took us around and showed us how they plan to use the building for various purposes.   During the presentation Chalit and Amber translated for us so we could keep up.  A foundation is being formed, with 51% of the control belonging to artists.  Local artists have one month to buy shares in the foundation.  It's a pretty cool plan and has the support of several 'National Artists' who live in the area.  When the meeting ended, everyone's spirits were very high and you could feel the enthusiasm in the air.   Today's photo will give you a sense of one of the rooms, which will be a permanent gallery.

Sunday was spent mostly on the compound.  We went to Gahn's shop to check out the work she had done for Lisa.  The new blouse was just what she wanted so Gahn is making more.  The afternoon was busy.  We bought a big wire shelf system at Makro in a quest to organize our 'shed'.  That's what we call the little room by the pool that keeps all the stuff that has no place to live in the house.  Kind of like a mini garage.  We enlisted Tatt's help in carrying some of the heavier containers in and out of the shed.  While he and Lisa emptied everything out, I put the shelves together.  After it was all done, some lucky recycler got a bunch of cardboard, there is a pile of give-aways, and we have a few things to sell.  The shed is neat, and we can get to stuff if we want to.  It's just amazing how things accumulate when you're not looking.

This morning was 'fix it' morning.  The Screen Man came and worked on our sliding screens.  One of them lost a roller assembly and needed servicing.  While he was here I tried to unfold the mystery surrounding the placement of windows on the outside and screens on the inside.  The short answer is that the frames are made with the bottom of the window lower than that of the screen.  If it were reversed then water would come inside.  Oh.  Now I understand why so many expats import their windows.

After Screen Man left it was time for Light Guy.  We needed him to change a socket in an overhead light.  This seems to be happening on a regular basis.  The ones that were installed when we built the house were clearly from the discount bin.  I've discussed buying a whole bunch of good ones and having him make everything right.  Seems simple enough.

This evening we had a nice dinner at Central Plaza, picked up a few things at Top's, and visited Telewiz.  Telewiz is a phone shop that handles the phone provider that I use.  I needed to add money to my phone as well as request that they stop sending me text messages.  The message thing is crazy here.  They send alerts to this and that and it's all in Thai.  I was told that it would take two days for them to stop.  As soon as I showed the guy my screen he knew what I wanted done.  Hmm.  Promote 'til they complain.

Have a Great Week.

                     Peace,
                                Danny
