Hi,
We had great weather in Chiang Rai and a busy weekend.
Our 'Old School Friday' song was "Crossroad Blues" by Robert Johnson. This song from 1936 gained popularity when Cream released a live recording of the song. Look it up and learn about the legends attributed to this song. It was actually about Johnson being stranded after dark in an area that wasn't safe at the time. In those days there were still curfews in place and African/Americans were not permitted to be out after dark. Now you know. Hey, it's time for 'Easy Monday' and a song I'm sure you'll remember: "Tall and tan and young and lovely, __ __ __ __ goes walking and when she passes, each one she passes goes Aah..." Hint: The title contains the name of a famous beach city somewhere in South America. Hmm.
Saturday morning a crew showed up to install the water tank. They got the job done after we called our friends Nukoon and Sutheera, who communicated what we needed as far as placement. By Saturday afternoon we had incredible water pressure and we couldn't be happier. The great thing is, they installed the big tank behind the waterfall, so we don't even know it's there.
In the evening we went to Le Meridien for the wine-tasting party. We saw people we met a month ago, and made some new friends. We met a Thai woman who lived in America and worked for Amtrak for 12 years. When she goes back to visit, she can ride the train anywhere she wants for free. It was a festive evening of conversation, laughter, and a lot of networking.
Sunday morning we went to the vegetable market for a few things, and to pick up a fruit basket as a thank you for Nukoon and Suthera. We had one of the florists put some flowers on the handle and it looked beautiful. When she came by to see the tank we gave her the basket. She told us that Dr. Nan had just had her baby girl and was at Overbrook Hospital, down the road from us. We went into town for lunch and picked up some tiny baby clothes. Later we went and saw the beautiful new baby. Her husband, Nu, has been staying at the hospital with her.
Sunday evening we went to a party at Gary and Ban's house. We planned to stay a polite amount of time and then come home and watch the Grand Prix. To our surprise, they were watching the race at the party. We got to know the owner of a new coffee shop/restaurant and had a wonderful time. We stayed until 10:30, it was so much fun.
Tomorrow we're going to Wat Rong Khun to meet Ajarn Chalermchi, the noted Thai artist who built the 'White Temple' as it's called. Our new friends Noy and Susan have arranged the introduction so he can see Lisa's art work.
Have a Great Week.
Peace,
Danny
