Hi,
Chiang Rai had a combination of weather events this weekend. Lots of heavy downpours, but plenty of cloudy sunshine as well. We're supposed to be dry for the week. Perfect weather for throwing water (555).
I can't believe no one remembered our 'Old School Friday' song, "Heaven & Paradise" by Don Julian & The Meadowlarks. You can listen on Youtube. Maybe you know this 'Easy Monday' offering. Feel the rhythm.
"Tall and tan and young and lovely, __ __ __ __ goes walking, and when she passes, each one she passes goes - aah. When she walks, she's like a samba that swings so cool and sways so gently, that when she passes, each one she passes goes - aah." Hint: This song introduced the U.S. to the music of a South American country on a grand scale. There is a beach city involved in the title. Hmm, easy.
Saturday morning there were probably lots of people expecting to get an early start on their Songkran fun. It might have happened if the rain hadn't come. Cat went to her village early and will stay until Friday. The weather cleared for Walking Street, but later that night more rain came. We usually don't get this much rain at this time of year.
Sunday morning it was raining when we woke up, and continued to rain for most of the morning. Daku was disappointed, but he had fun later. Blue and I went on a little adventure to the Green Bus shipping depot. He had some printing done in Chiang Mai and the bus is the quickest way to ship things. It was eerie, riding through the nearly empty streets in a light rain. Between the businesses that are normally closed on Sundays, and the ones that are closed for Songkran, not much was open. The package we picked up consisted of posters and postcards that Blue has created. The collage consists of faces from 7 different Hill Tribes, taken at 6 villages. That is our photo for today.
Sunday evening I noticed something flying through the room. Then it landed and we went on 'high alert'. It was one of the notorious, long-winged, ant-looking things that tried to take over the house last year. They have this uncanny ability to squeeze through the tiniest spaces in an effort to get to the light. Like the moth/flame thing. All of our bug rackets were out of charge and they had been our first line of defense. Lisa grabbed the dust-buster portion of our new vacuum and began to capture all the bugs that were sitting on a surface. Attempts to catch them in flight were marginally successful, but it made a difference. We were able to confine them to one room by turning off all of the lights in the house and traveling by flashlight. Tonight we are in the midst of a blackout in preparation for another visit. This whole invasion thing happens on the first couple of nights of the rainy season. The bugs think the season has started. Hey, maybe they're right. Ironically, last night there were probably locals out under street lights catching the same bugs so they could take them home and fry them up. Hmm.
Tomorrow we will continue with our Monday adventures, there's so much to tell.
Have a Great Week.
Peace,
Danny
