Doubt

Hi,

Chiang Rai is in drought mode, with the river looking lower than ever.  The temps are up, but so are our spirits.  As long as there's air/con and the pool, we can keep up.  I can't say the same for the operators of the long-tail boats that have to try and negotiate the sand bars that keep popping up.

Well, there is still time to be first with the correct answer.  Looks like 'Easy Monday' is not so easy after all.
"If you say run, I'll run with you.  If you say hide, we'll hide.  Because my love for you would break my heart in two if you should fall into my arms and tremble like a flower.  __ __ for fear your grace should fall.  __ __ for fear tonight is all."
Clue:  This 1983 hit is from an album of the same name by an artist who once sang about fame, gigged with some alien spiders, and went into space.

Things get a little weird when you don't have any water in the outside faucets.  We're having a dry well dilemma and it means we can't water anything in this extremely dry weather.  Somehow, the idea of routing all the well water on separate pipes is not sounding so good right now.  An emergency bypass is needed, then we'll be happy.

This morning we made the rounds of several of our downtown merchants.  At Sahapaiboon we asked about something to clean the deposits out of the shower head.  Try translating that into understandable terms.  Lisa was working the translator program on her phone, using the Thai words she knows, while the young people were showing us new showers in different shapes.  Finally, Lisa pointed to a shower head and gestured like the water going in wild directions and they understood.  The answer: No have.  Then a young guy who spoke English came to the rescue and ran around asking various staff.  He came back with his phone on a translation program and told us to try vinegar.  It was a classic case of communication through technology, sort of.  When we got home we soaked the head in vinegar and it's better.

The police have a piece of property across from the main station where they have a dinning/hang-out area.  We noticed a motorcycle parked there that was not typical of the Chiang Rai Police.  It was a big bike from Chiang Mai, with a red light on a post in the rear, and official looking bags on the sides.  I wonder if we're going to get pursuit bikes up here?  That would totally confuse most drivers, since no one ever gets pulled over for a traffic offense.  Hmm, the price of progress.

While we were hanging out in the pool this afternoon we realized that all of the large-leaf palm type plants have had their leaves shredded by the high winds.  The banana tree and the 'Barrier' palms must have been designed by nature to withstand the wind by letting the leaves split, rather than act as sails and topple the plants.  They're still thriving, they just look different.  I'll have to take some photos.

We had a really cool Skype call with our friends Louise and Jesper in Denmark.  Their 7 month old son Rasmus was on the screen the whole time, being alert and cute.  It's so amazing to be able to communicate like that, and see the changes in little ones.

As we patiently wait for some of the forecasted 'near by' rain to get closer, the weather is back in teasing mode.  It was looking like it might happen when the breeze got strong, but nothing.  We had a 2 minute black-out for no reason and that just puzzled us.  It usually happens when there's thunder and lightning.

Today's photo is one of the sewing machine tables I told you about.  Most of them seem to be used in coffee shops and small cafes.  It's a pretty cool recycling idea.

Have a Happy Tuesday.

                   Peace,
                              Danny
