Sunshine

Hi,

Today was a 'light rain' day here in Chiang Rai.  There was adventure in the morning and relaxing in the afternoon.

I can tell when an 'Easy Monday' song is really easy.  I get lots of responses.  This one is easy so I need to hear from you.  "Coast to coast, L.A. to Chicago, Western male.  Across the North and South to Key Largo, love for sale... No need to ask, he's a __ __, __ __, __ __, __ __."  Hint:  He's a player and that's all you get.

This morning we set out to pay our annual property tax bill.  We had never done this before.  Friends had done it for us.  This year we figured we'd just go to the land office and handle it.  It turned out that the land office wasn't the place to pay the bill, but the woman drew a rough map that didn't really help.  One block down there is another official office so we went there.  While I was parking the car Lisa was directed to go across the street to yet another building.  I parked by the main market and met her there.  After the $4, we decided to go into the maze of the market.

There are two 'main aisles' to enter and exit the market.  On the one we use there are vendors who sell everything from shoes to clothing to fireworks and fish.  Lisa bought a blouse from one of the stalls where we are 'regulars'.  Somehow, the blouse slipped out of the bag during our travels.  While we were getting some treats at the other end of the main aisle, a young woman from the stall ran up with the blouse.  We were surprised, but not surprised.  It's not uncommon for vendors to go out of their way to make sure you get your purchase.  We stopped at the fabric shop and asked the owner about charcoal for our BBQ.  He walked us out to the main street and pointed to the shop.  Now we know exactly where to find it.  Everyone kept telling us 'it's in the market', but the market is a big place.

On our way home we went in search of the local library.  We knew the street to turn on, but had never actually seen it.  Today we found it but there was no place to park.  Now that we have a definite destination, we can try again.  We've been told that they have a section with books in English.

August is the rainiest month of the rainy season.  No kidding.  It seems like it's been going on forever but that's because it began early this year.  The season, not August.  Today we just had a brief, light rain after lunch.  For a while it looked like it was going to rain hard, but the sky changed and we got an interesting sunset.  This shot was taken from our upstairs bathroom window.  Best view in the house.

Have a Happy Tuesday.

                     Peace,
                                Danny
