Hi,
The weather in Chiang Rai is the coolest it's been in a long time. The waterfall is getting ready for it's close-ups, we returned to school today, and Loy Kratong is over.
We just had the best 'Easy Monday' song yet. So many of you got it, you should be proud. It was "My Guy" by Mary Wells. Nobody got the bonus points. There was a hit called "Canadian Sunset" and the first line of the verse is the same line you hear at the end of each verse in 'My Guy'. Oh well, now that's in my head. Try this one: "Well, you've got your diamonds and you've got your pretty clothes, and a chauffeur drives your car, you let everybody know..." Hint: Early ballad by R&R legends who are still at it. It's a cautionary tale. Pretty hot stuff.
It was bound to happen. With the arrival of winter, could cooler temperatures be far behind? The answer is yes. We've had some cool overnight weather, but today it stayed cooler all day. In town it was a bit warmer, but on our side of the river it was quite pleasant. I even pulled out a long-sleeved T-shirt. Hmm.
More planting was done on and around the waterfall today. Just when we think it can't get any better, it gets better. Later this week I promise to post some pictures of our new water feature.
We went back to language school today and got more info piled on us. Certain things are coming together and yet there are things we still don't understand. It's going to take a lot of drilling and repetition to really absorb all the rules and exceptions. Today we started working on tones and tone markers. There are five tones we have to memorize. There are some words in Thai that can be used with any of the five tones and have a different meaning. Get a tone wrong and one could seriously embarrass oneself. I will study the tones.
The festival of Loy Kratong is over and done. It was quite an assault on the senses and the quiet is almost eerie.
There are no more explosions, no thumping bass and the traffic has returned to normal.
Have a Wacky Wednesday.
Peace,
Danny
